The Little Brewing Company’s Mad Abbot range of ales are produced in the style of the Trappist monasteries of Belgium, and comprises a Dubbel (6.9% ABV), Abbey Ale (8.0% ABV) and Tripel (9.5% ABV).
These ales are bottle conditioned resulting in yeast sediment in the bottle, and undergo months of careful cellaring before release. These beers are made with finesse in true Belgian style with alcohol content well hidden beneath the complex flavour.
The Mad Abbot Dubbel is a dark, rich, luxurious, moderately strong ale.
Colour and appearance:
Dark brown (from Belgian dark candy sugars) with good head retention and a thick creamy head.
Aroma:
Rich and malty with complex fruity esters (raisins, plums and spice), bitter chocolate, and hints of expresso and mocha.
Flavour:
Rich and malty with dark fruit characters (raisin, plum) and chocolate. Medium/full bodied with a warming mouth feel.
Suggested Food Match:
Excellent with strong cheeses and hearty red meat dishes. Could be positioned as a dessert beer with chocolate or coffee flavoured desserts or as an after dinner night cap.
