Mad Abbot Belgian-style Strong Abbey Ale

ABV = 8.0%

This is The Little Brewing Company’s version of a Belgian Strong (Dark) Abbey Ale using 100% European speciality malts and two separate yeast strains. The beer is ‘bottle conditioned’ and undergoes a minimum of three months careful cellaring before release. This beer is made with finesse in true Belgian style with its alcohol content well hidden beneath the complex flavour.

Overall, this beer is a rich, dark, strong ale that will reward careful cellaring for 5+ years.

Colour and appearance:
A ‘lively’ beer, deep amber/garnet red in colour with a thick creamy head.

Aroma:
Rich and malty with complex fruity esters (dark fruits) and spice.

Flavour:
Flavours are similarly rich and complex. Sweet malt, dried fruits, plum and spice flavours wrap around the tongue with a ‘warming’ alcohol mouthfeel.

Suggested food match:
Excellent with strong cheeses. Grab a loaf of crusty bread and pretend you’re a monk. Could be positioned as a dessert beer (try sticky date pudding and butterscotch sauce) or as an after dinner night cap.
