World class silver lining for The Little Brewing Company at 2008 Australian International Beer Awards

Held under the auspices of The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, the AIBA is the second largest beer competition in the world and this year received more than 1,100 entries from breweries in 42 countries.

TLBC received a silver medal for its bottled Wicked Elf Pilsner, a silver medal for its draught Wicked Elf Pale Ale, and a silver medal for the retail packaging of the Wicked Elf range.

“Our achievements at the AIBA backs up the results we recently achieved in Sydney against Australian competition, but now gives us a benchmark against international breweries as well in only our second professional competition where gold medals were again extremely hard to come by,” said Managing Director, Kylie Little.

In the bottled Pilsner section of the competition, only two gold medals were awarded across the large and small brewery categories, with Wicked Elf Pilsner one of eight silver medals awarded.

There were no gold medals awarded in the American Style Pale Ale section, with the draught Wicked Elf Pale Ale being one of nine silver medals for draught product across the competition.

“We understand that this was perhaps the toughest competition in the fifteen-year history of the AIBA so to do as well as we did with the Pilsner and Pale Ale is a great result,” said Kylie.

“We started out to make beer of consistent and premium quality but to now have it acknowledged as up there with some of the best in the world is something we hadn't contemplated.

“With only three beers in the range, we've taken a gold medal, four silver and a bronze in only two competitions entered, which I guess isn't bad for a brewery that is a few months shy of its first birthday,” Kylie added.
