International gold for little brewery among eight medal haul

The Little Brewing Company (TLBC) has been awarded gold, five silver and two bronze in an eight medal haul at the 2010 Australian International Beer Awards (AIBAs).

The AIBAs, which are held in Melbourne, is the largest annual beer awards in the world and this year 234 breweries from 34 countries submitted a total of 1,170 entries in bottle and keg.

TLBC entered five beers –three Wicked Elves and two Mad Abbots – and all medalled.

“I think it was a relatively tough competition this year for Australian breweries as international breweries took home 11 of the 15 trophies awarded,” said brewer, Warwick Little. “The Champion Small and Large breweries were from Norway and Germany respectively, and the Norwegian brewery was Champion Exhibitor with two gold and two silver medals from four beers entered.”

“We did exceptionally well, with eight medals from five beers entered across eight categories. This is our third AIBAs and we’ve been adding medals as we increase the number of beers entered each year. This shows that we are consistently producing a high quality product that can hold its own against breweries from around the world,” said Warwick.

Medals were awarded as follows:

Gold – Wicked Elf Pale Ale draught Silver – Mad Abbot Dubbel bottle

Silver – Wicked Elf Witbier draught Silver – Mad Abbot Tripel bottle

Silver – Wicked Elf Pilsner draught Bronze – Wicked Elf Pale Ale bottle

Silver – Wicked Elf Pilsner bottle Bronze – Wicked Elf Witbier bottle

The AIBAs are recognised on a global stage as the pre-eminent showcase for premium beer and brewing excellence in the Asia Pacific region.
